It’s all fun and games till someone loses an eye. Then it’s fun and games without depth perception.
We the members of the Mary Washington Fencing Club, in order to perform a more perfect lunge, establish right of way, insure proper distance, provide eight common defenses, promote entertainment and exercise, and ensure victories for ourselves and our club, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the Mary Washington Fencing Club. — preamble to the club constitution
The Mary Washington Fencing Club meets for practice every Tuesday from 4-5:30 PM, and Friday and Sunday from 5-6:30 PM in Goolrick’s Auxilary Gym. Feel free to show up, whether you’ve fenced before or not – we’re glad to teach newcomers to the sport. We also meet for dinner after each practice at the Nest, so keep a lookout for us if you can’t always make it to practices.
We’re one of the larger clubs on campus, and have members fencing each of the three weapons. As a club, we don’t have an official instructor, but students teach each other and we occasionally bring in guest coaches. As we are also a club, not a team, attendance is not mandatory to still compete in tournaments and participate in club activities.
We go to and host tournaments, and we’re always looking for more people to fence. If you’d like to fence us, contact our tournament coordinator Michelle at the fencing account, who will no doubt be most excited to arrange something.
